About the role
Job summary
The National Housing Bank (NHB) is a new government-backed financial institution, operating as a subsidiary of Homes England. Established to unlock investment and accelerate housing delivery across England, NHB will play a pivotal role in tackling the country's housing challenges.
We're looking for a Senior Portfolio Manager to join our Lending Alliances Portfolio Management Team and help shape one of the UK's most significant housing finance platforms.
Reporting to: Sheena Zwicky-Ross, Head of Lending Alliances Portfolio Management
Job description
As Senior Portfolio Manager, you will play a leading role in managing a portfolio of complex Lending Alliances loan partnerships with private sector funders. These recoverable finance arrangements extend NHB's market reach, leverage partner expertise and accelerate housing delivery at scale. Typical loan facilities range from £10m to £100m+.
Working within a small but highly experienced team, you will collaborate closely with lending partners, senior leaders and internal stakeholders to ensure the effective management of a diverse loan portfolio. You will identify, assess and resolve emerging issues, balancing commercial objectives with risk management and delivering excellent customer outcomes.
Portfolio Management is delivery-focused, innovative and collaborative. We pride ourselves on providing first-class service, finding practical solutions to complex challenges and creating an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives drive better decision-making.
The role offers a unique opportunity to combine day-to-day portfolio management with the design and delivery of debt funding solutions that support strategically important housing projects across England.
Person specification
You will be an experienced real estate finance or banking professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
You will bring:
• Strong commercial lending, portfolio management and risk management expertise.
• Experience of managing complex structured debt transactions within the real estate sector.
• A sound understanding of LMA lending principles and loan documentation.
• Strong analytical, financial modelling and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and report-writing abilities.
• The confidence to engage and influence senior borrowers, lenders and internal stakeholders.
You will be resilient, organised and solutions-focused, with a strong understanding of how portfolio decisions align with strategic priorities, risk appetite and operational delivery. Most importantly, you will be a collaborative team player who values building trusted relationships and delivering positive outcomes.
