About the role

Job Description

We are looking for three Family Support Workers to support a new school-linked whole family wellbeing project for young people aged 12–18 affected by drug and alcohol use, and their parents or carers.

Working with secondary schools, Youth Services, LIBRA and partner agencies, you will provide early, practical and relationship-based support before concerns escalate to crisis or statutory thresholds. The work will be voluntary, trauma-informed, strengths-based and focused on reducing harm, improving wellbeing and strengthening family relationships.

Location: Aberdeenshire, with a focus on Fraserburgh, Peterhead, Portlethen and Stonehaven school communities

The post holder will
• Provide one-to-one support to young people where drug or alcohol use is affecting wellbeing, attendance, relationships, behaviour or safety.
• Work with parents and carers to improve understanding, communication, confidence and harm reduction.
• Build effective working relationships with schools and respond to referrals in a timely and proportionate way.
• Support young people and families to identify goals, reduce risk and access wider community support.
• Contribute to partnership working, outcome monitoring and service learning.
This post would suit someone who has
• Experience of working with young people, families or vulnerable groups.
• An understanding of how substance use can affect young people, families and communities.
• A calm, non-judgemental and relationship-based approach.
• Good communication skills and the ability to build trust with young people, parents, carers and professionals.
• Confidence working flexibly across school, family and community settings.

This is an opportunity to
Be part of a developing early intervention approach in Aberdeenshire, helping young people and families access support earlier, reduce harm, improve wellbeing and strengthen links with school and community supports.
