About the role

Job summary

This position is an integral part of the Department for Business, Innovation, Science & Trade Export Planning and Performance team, contributing to the delivery of the department’s export performance objectives. The postholder will play a pivotal part in supporting robust performance reporting across the Directorate.

Job description

The role will:

  • Support the development and implementation of unified export reporting and performance frameworks, ensuring data is accurate and dashboards are up to date.
  • Promote a culture of value-led evaluation and support improvement initiatives across Directorate workstreams.
  • Work across the Exports Directorate to ensure performance data and reporting is accurate and can be utilised to make accurate and real time performance decisions.
  • Support the Exports Delivery Board including preparing agendas, collating papers, and managing communications with Board members.

Act always in line with the Civil Service code, with DBT’s performance and behavioural standards, and putting responsibilities as a UK Civil Servant at the forefront of everyday performance and behaviour.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide operational and administrative support to the Performance team, working closely with teams across the exports system in DBT.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across DBT and with external partners, supporting the delivery of export performance initiatives.
  • Assist in the collection, analysis, and presentation of performance data, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement and support the implementation of export performance projects.
  • Support the alignment of export delivery teams across the Directorate, ensuring consistency with strategic priorities.
  • Contribute to the review and improvement of export support mechanisms, identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Take on delegated responsibilities for corporate activities within the Performance team and Directorate.

Person specification

Essential criteria

The below criteria are essential and will be assessed at application stage;

  • Strong analytical and communications skills, with the ability to analyse information and present it clearly and concisely using multiple formats such as PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to support governance, reporting and secretariat functions
  • Experience working in a performance, governance, or delivery-focused environment.
  • Experience engaging with a range of stakeholders, analytical and financial teams to support operational decisions and team objectives.
  • Project support experience, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Desirable criteria

The below criteria are desirable only. These will not be assessed throughout the recruitment process, but will be used in the event of tied scores between candidates;

  • Familiarity with Amazon QuickSight or other data analysis and digital tools for reporting and performance management, and a willingness to develop skills in this area further.
  • Experience supporting performance management in public sector or delivery environment.
  • Understanding of the role of exports in economic growth and the contribution of export support services.
  • Experience working with senior leaders or supporting high-level boards.
