We're looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to support and maintain Ofgem's cloud and on-premises infrastructure services. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse technology landscape, combining traditional infrastructure with modern cloud platforms and automation technologies.
In this role, you'll help ensure the reliable operation of our Microsoft Azure-focused environment, supporting virtualised services, infrastructure deployments, monitoring activities, patching programmes, and incident resolution. You'll work closely with senior engineers, architects, suppliers and business stakeholders to maintain secure, resilient and high-performing services.
You'll contribute to both business-as-usual operations and project delivery, supporting infrastructure improvements and the adoption of modern technologies such as Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform. From server provisioning and system maintenance to monitoring, troubleshooting and disaster recovery activities, you'll play a key role in ensuring our services remain robust, compliant and responsive to business needs.
We're seeking someone with experience supporting infrastructure environments, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering excellent service. Knowledge of cloud technologies, virtualisation, monitoring tools and modern infrastructure practices would be advantageous.

Job description
Key Responsibilities
• Provide hands-on support for cloud infrastructure services, ensuring systems operate reliably and meet service needs.
• Contribute to deployments, configuration activities and routine monitoring, helping identify issues early and supporting system health.
• Assist in resolving incidents by executing troubleshooting tasks, escalating appropriately, and contributing to problem investigations.
• Carry out scheduled deployments, patching, updates, and routine maintenance to ensure systems remain compliant, secure, and operational.
• Support improvements to tools, automation and processes by contributing suggestions, testing changes, and applying established practices.
• Maintain accurate and precise documentation that supports operational continuity, knowledge sharing, and compliance.
Key Outputs and Deliverables
• Provide cloud support and on-premises infrastructure environments.
• Execute patching, updates, and routine maintenance activities.
• Contribute to monitoring, alerting and system health checks.
• Assist with deployments, configuration updates, and service integrations.
• Maintain clear technical documentation for operational continuity.
Person specification
Essential Criteria:
In the event of receiving a large number of applications an initial sift may take place on just the identified lead criteria indicated below.
• Experience carrying out infrastructure maintenance activities such as deployments, patching, upgrades, monitoring, backup and recovery, and assisting with incident resolution. (LEAD)
• Experience supporting and maintaining cloud and infrastructure services, including Microsoft Azure to ensure services remain secure, available and operational. (LEAD)
• Experience using automation, scripting, or Infrastructure-as-Code technologies tools to improve operational efficiency and stability. (LEAD)
• Experience investigating and resolving infrastructure issues, escalating where appropriate, and working collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders to support effective service delivery.
• Holds, or can obtain within 6 months of appointment, the Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate certification (or equivalent cloud infrastructure certification).
