Pre-Press Designer

ASA Recruitment’s client, a Public Sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Pre-Press Designer on a hybrid basis, on an initial 3-month contract (with potential extensions) on a rate of c.£19.02/hour PAYE (based on experience).

The Role:

To work within the Printing Services team, carrying out a wide range of design and pre-press tasks. Working to customers’ specifications and brand guidelines to prepare artwork files for production printing and for digital use. To give design advice and support to colleagues and customers. To help develop our service and to contribute towards the creative activities of the organisation and our external customers.

Responsibilities:

• Carrying out general pre-press tasks, amending and updating artwork files and preparing customers’ files for print. Proofing, quality checking, imposing and creating print ready PDF files. Taking responsibility for checking files are correct before passing to the next stage of production.
• Producing creative graphic design work, working closely with customers to discuss their individual design needs and specifications. Using variable data, text and images to create professional, effective, design solutions to meet customers’ requirements.
• Support the Production Team in fulfilling print requests during periods of high demand and to provide operational cover during periods of annual leave or other staff absence.
• Support the Production Team with associated administrative processes, including job pricing, customer service and liaison with Finance colleagues to facilitate internal recharging.

Essential Experience:

• HND or equivalent qualification in Graphic Design, plus at least 3 years relevant experience of working in a similar environment
• Thorough knowledge of pre-press production processes within the print and design industry
• Excellent IT skills, particularly in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and imposition software
• Experience of designing and producing artwork for a wide range of printed materials eg. stationery, leaflets, booklets, posters, large format display work, forme cut products, variable data products
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Good communication skills with a strong focus on customer service
• Experience of working on both Mac and Windows platforms
• Experience of working within a print production team

Desirable Experience:

• Experience of working with an online ordering system
• Experience of web content creation and editing
