About the role

We are seeking an energetic and empathetic Resource Base Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated primary provision. In this role, you will work within a specialized unit supporting children with complex Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASC), and Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN). You will play a pivotal role in creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where every child can flourish at their own pace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group instructional and emotional support within the Resource Base.

  • Implement structured learning activities tailored to individual EHCP goals and learning levels.

  • Use positive behaviour intervention techniques and de-escalation strategies to support pupils experiencing emotional dysregulation.

  • Assist with alternative communication methods, visual schedules, and sensory regulation breaks.

  • Work closely with the Resource Base Lead, SENCO, external therapists, and class teachers to monitor and record pupil progress.

  • Foster pupil independence, build self-esteem, and facilitate positive social integration with mainstream peers where appropriate.

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Support Worker, or Care Assistant (experience in a resource base, PRU, or special school is advantageous).

  • Strong understanding of SEN, SEMH, Autism, or complex needs.

  • Familiarity with communication tools (such as Makaton, PECS, or visual timetables) is highly desirable.

  • Excellent de-escalation skills, patience, resilience, and a calm approach under pressure.

  • Strong team-working abilities and effective communication skills.

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
