We have an exciting opportunity for a talented, enthusiastic Senior DevOps Engineer within our Digital Services team. We are responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting the agency’s line of business applications.

Job description

Digital Services has recently transitioned from a third-party DevOps model to a fully in house capability. We are standardising and consolidating our technology stack as we move away from legacy services, creating a fantastic opportunity for you to help shape our future digital landscape.

Digital Services is part of Change and Technology Services (CTS) who support and improve applications and systems across the agency’s IT landscape. CTS provide key services including digital services, cyber security, information governance, service architecture and technical governance.

Our DevOps team looks after the deployment and maintenance of our Digital Services in line with the Government’s Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice. They work closely with delivery teams to ensure the products are secure and meet the demands of its users.

Responsibilities

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will:

• provide subject matter expertise and guidance on Microsoft Azure
• build and maintain Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tooling
• improve deployment pipelines, monitoring and observability across our digital products
• ensure the stability, security and performance of production and non‑production environments
• lead on incident investigation, root cause analysis, and service improvement
• define and maintain DevOps standards, including IaC, observability, deployment patterns, and runbooks
• support delivery teams with DevOps best practice and provide mentoring to junior engineers
• produce clear, accurate documentation aligned to Digital Services standards
• contribute to technical estimates and roadmap planning
• provide coaching and mentoring to more junior colleagues

Person specification

You will need to:

• be an enthusiastic team player, comfortable collaborating with colleagues at all levels.
• stay calm under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively
• have a keen eye for detail and a tenacious approach to solving problems
• possess strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns, diagnose issues and improve repeatable processes
• ideally have experience in software development
• communicate clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing
• build strong relationships across Digital Services to support secure, stable delivery

Essential Criteria

To be considered for this role you must:

• possess extensive experience in a similar role using Microsoft Azure
• possess significant CI/CD experience using Azure DevOps(ADO)/Team Foundation Server (TFS)
• have extensive experience creating, maintaining and monitoring both Azure PaaS and IaaS resources
• have demonstrable experience of running multiple applications in multiple environments in a large enterprise
• have experience is writing and maintaining bicep IaC at an expert level
• have an active Security Clearance or be committed to gaining clearance within the first 6 months of joining

Desirable Criteria

It would be beneficial if you also have experience of one or more of the following:

• using Terraform to build, manage and maintain infrastructure as code
• working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 environments or integrations
• using PowerShell to automate deployment, configuration, monitoring or operational tasks
• developing or supporting applications using C#/.NET
• working with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate or related services

Please note: This vacancy is advertised across 11 locations; however, Stratford and Croydon are only available to current Insolvency Service Staff. The advertised salary includes London weighting, which is only applicable to internal candidates.

If you do not currently hold Security Check (SC) clearance, we will support you through the vetting process following a conditional offer of employment. As SC clearance is essential for this role, appointment is dependent of successfully obtaining and maintaining it. We will provide guidance and support through this process.
