Salary: £47,500 – £52,000 + Comprehensive Benefits Package

About the Role

An established engineering and technology business is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing design team. This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, taking designs from concept through to manufacture, installation, and final client sign-off.

You’ll play a key role in delivering innovative engineering solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting the development of junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure quality and safety standards are maintained throughout all project activities.
• Deliver mechanical design solutions across multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges.
• Research emerging technologies and industry developments to support product innovation.
• Develop and implement improvements to engineering processes, products, and documentation.
• Take ownership of significant project elements and smaller standalone projects.
• Conduct design calculations using engineering hand calculations, spreadsheets, FEA, and specialist software.
• Produce and review detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Support bid and proposal activities, including concept development, technical assessments, risk analysis, and cost estimation.
• Carry out client requirement reviews, design studies, and feasibility assessments.
• Participate in site surveys, technical meetings, and client presentations.
• Support project management teams with technical queries, installation considerations, and project delivery activities.
• Prepare technical documentation, compliance packs, operating manuals, and acceptance documentation.
• Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
• Support manufacturing teams throughout production and assembly phases.
• Provide technical support for existing equipment and legacy systems.
• Assist with mentoring junior engineers and supporting continuous professional development initiatives.
• Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and knowledge-sharing activities where appropriate.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience in mechanical design within an engineering, manufacturing, or project-based environment.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and product development.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software such as Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of engineering calculations and analysis methods, including FEA.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to manage workload across multiple concurrent projects.
