The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Locum Consultant in Spinal Surgery to support a leading Orthopaedic service based in the South West.

This exciting opportunity offers a 6-month locum contract within a specialist spinal surgery service, providing a blend of elective and trauma spinal work. The role is primarily based at the Orthopaedic Centre, with trauma commitments in the South West.

You will join an established multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality spinal care across outpatient, inpatient, theatre, and trauma settings while contributing to the spinal trauma on-call rota.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver consultant-led elective and trauma spinal surgery services
• Undertake outpatient clinics and patient assessments
• Participate in elective and trauma theatre sessions
• Conduct inpatient ward rounds and oversee patient management
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and treatment planning
• Provide specialist spinal trauma support as part of the 1:6 on-call rota
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards
• Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams, AHPs, and wider clinical colleagues
• Support safe, effective, and high-quality patient care across the service

What We're Looking For

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• GMC Specialist Register status (or eligibility for inclusion)
• Consultant-level experience in Spinal Surgery
• Experience in both elective and trauma spinal surgery
• Background in Trauma & Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery
• Strong clinical judgement, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)

Desirable

• Post-CCT Spinal Surgery Fellowship
• Previous experience within a specialist spinal surgery unit
