Assistant Caretaker

The role

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Caretaker to join our highly effective and dedicated site team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring that our school buildings and grounds remain safe, welcoming and well maintained for staff, students and visitors each day.

Working closely with the Site Manager and Senior Caretaker, you will take pride in keeping the site running smoothly. This is a varied role that includes responsibility for site security, routine maintenance, cleaning oversight and addressing any defects or repairs that may arise.

The working hours are 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, all year round. During term time, the hours will be 10:00 to 18:00 Monday to Thursday and 10:00 to 17:30 on a Friday. During school holiday periods the hours will be 8:00 to 16:00 Monday to Thursday and 8:00 to 15:30 on a Friday.

You

Previous experience is NOT essential, but you will need general maintenance skills in areas such as painting, plumbing, or general building maintenance, and be keen to learn new skills with a professional and positive attitude.

Safeguarding

All applicants will be required to provide two references, which will be obtained prior to interview. As part of our safer recruitment processes, online searches will also be carried out on shortlisted candidates.

The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This role involves direct contact with children and is therefore classified as regulated activity.

In line with this, the post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and candidates are required to disclose any relevant criminal convictions.

Salary

This post is paid at Grade 6, spinal column points 7-11. The starting salary is £27,273, increasing to £29,070.
