Teaching Assistant

As our Teaching Assistant you will work closely with teachers to support teaching and learning, providing targeted help to pupils and assisting staff in creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Your role will help ensure all pupils can access learning and develop confidence, independence, and resilience.

Working under the direct guidance and supervision of classroom teachers, you will support individuals and small groups of pupils, helping them to engage with lessons, follow instructions, and build their skills. You will also assist with behaviour management and contribute to maintaining a calm, supportive learning atmosphere.

You will be patient, approachable, and proactive, able to adapt your support to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners. Your input will be vital in helping pupils achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

Hours of duty: 32 hours per week - 8:30-15:15 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Tuesdays until 4pm for CPD.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Level 3 in Teaching Assistant, or equivalent

• GCSE Math and English with a pass mark or a functional skills qualification- we cannot employ without these qualifications

• To have experience of working with children in primary school setting

To have experience of ICT as a learning tool and an interest in furthering their ICT skill

In this role you will:

• Work with individuals or small groups of pupils under the direct supervision of teachers, providing feedback on progress and behaviour.
• Support pupils in understanding instructions and encourage independent learning and inclusion for all.
• Assist the teacher in managing pupil behaviour and keeping pupils engaged and on task.
• Support pupils’ social and emotional wellbeing, also attending to physical care needs, and reporting any concerns to the teacher as appropriate.
• Prepare and clear learning environments and resources, including photocopying, filing, and displaying pupils’ work, while helping maintain a safe and tidy classroom.
• Contribute to the management of pupil behaviour and take control of minor situations to allow the teacher to continue the lesson

You may also:

• Complete records and contribute to reports on pupil progress and development as directed.
• Record basic pupil data to support monitoring of progress.
• Support children’s learning through play-based activities.
• Assist with break-time supervision, including organising games and activities.
• Escort pupils on educational visits, ensuring their safety and engagement.
• Help pupils use basic ICT tools.
• Invigilate exams and tests under supervision.
• Assist pupils with eating, dressing, and personal hygiene, encouraging independence wherever possible.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be a key part of the classroom team, supporting pupils to overcome barriers and make the most of their education.
