About the role
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Successful teaching experience
- Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements
- Experience of working with pupils with a range of SEND
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies
- Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills
- Mandatory SENCO Qualification
- Hold, or be willing to complete, the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs, in line with statutory requirements
- Transitional arrangements apply:
- SENCOs who began the NASENCO before 1 September 2024 must complete it by 1 September 2027
- SENCOs who already hold the NASENCO are not required to complete the NPQ for SENCOs
Desirable
- Experience of strategic SEND leadership
- Experience of writing and reviewing EHCP documentation
- Experience of working across more than one school or within a Trust context
- Knowledge of evidence-informed SEND practice
