Senior Design Manager

United Kingdom Kier Group We're looking for a Senior Design Manager to join our nationally based team working across the Education, Defence, Health and Justice sectors. Location: Nationally based, with local office working available
Hours: 37.5 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Salary: starting from £60,000 per year

Are you...

• Experienced in a Senior Design Manager or comparable role within construction, infrastructure or the built environment
• Skilled in managing multi-disciplinary design through pre-construction, including tender and detailed design stages
• Knowledgeable about construction methodology, buildability, design standards and statutory requirements
• Commercially aware with a strong understanding of the relationship between design decisions, cost and programme
• Confident in leading client-facing communication, negotiation and stakeholder management

What will you be responsible for?

As a Senior Design Manager, you'll be working within the pre-construction team, supporting them in delivering strategic design leadership and technical assurance across a portfolio of projects. You'll provide technical assurance and project-management discipline throughout the entire project lifecycle, from early design concepts through to handover. You'll work collaboratively with clients, consultants, and internal teams, building trusted relationships while ensuring design solutions are compliant, buildable, and aligned with project objectives. This role offers the chance to make a real impact, leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring Design Managers, all while contributing to meaningful projects in the built environment.

Your day to day will include:

• Leading design management across allocated complex projects and providing strategic direction from concept through to handover
• Managing design programmes, deliverables, resources, fees, budgets and change control processes
• Acting as a senior interface with clients, consultants and project teams, leading design meetings and technical workshops
• Providing technical oversight and ensuring design solutions are coordinated, compliant and buildable
• Line managing Design Managers, coaching and mentoring team members to support their development
