Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)

Larkmead School are seeking a passionate, dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO) to take a strategic lead on our SEND and inclusion provision. This position is to start from January 2027

Working closely with the Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, teachers, parents, and external agencies, you will ensure that our pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive high-quality, personalised support and make excellent progress

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Direction: Oversee and develop the implementation of the school’s SEND strategy, policy, and graduated approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review)
• Provision Coordination: Coordinate day-to-day provision for children with SEND, managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and statutory annual reviews.
• Staff Guidance & Development: Provide professional guidance, coaching, and training to teachers and learning support assistants to ensure adaptive teaching and effective classroom differentiation.
• Multi-Agency Working: Liaise effectively with parents, carers, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and local authority professionals.
• Monitoring & Evaluation: Track, monitor, and evaluate the progress of SEND pupils and the impact of targeted interventions

As the successful candidate you will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK
• A recognised SENDCO qualification (such as the National Award for SEN Coordination - NASENCO, or the National Professional Qualification for SENDCOs - NPQ SENDCO).
• Proven, successful experience working as a SENDCO or in a senior pastoral/inclusion leadership role.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory frameworks.
• Exceptional communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
• A genuine vocation and unwavering commitment to inclusive education

Interview process

Shortlisting will take place shortly after the closing date, with interviews taking place on the 19th October 2026.

The interview process will include teaching a lesson and a panel interview.
