Based in Stevenage - hybrid (typically 3 days on site)   Salary ip to £40,500 + bonus + up to 14% pension + overtime   Something has failed. Your job is to find out exactly why.   Not "there's a fault on that board somewhere". The component, the failure mechanism, and the root cause. Then you write it up so it doesn't happen again.   If you enjoy fault-finding circuit card assemblies down to component level, and you can't leave a failure alone until you understand it, this is worth two minutes of your time.   What's different about this one   The team is building out its component failure analysis capability. You won't inherit a finished process; you'll help shape it, including evaluating new failure analysis equipment and techniques with partners in the UK and overseas.   It suits an experienced electronics test engineer or technician ready to specialise in failure analysis, or an electronics engineer who prefers the lab to the spreadsheet.   What you'll do

• Investigate component, PCB and circuit card assembly (CCA) failures through fault finding, lab work and root cause analysis
• Work alongside component engineering, design, test and manufacturing teams to close failures out
• Help develop and evaluate new failure analysis processes and equipment, visiting suppliers and partners, including some international travel
• Write clear failure analysis reports and contribute to shared technical standards
• Run your own work packages, balancing cost, quality and schedule

What you'll need

• Hands-on experience fault-finding PCBAs or circuit card assemblies to component level, using electronic test equipment
• A working understanding of PCB and CCA manufacture and assembly, and how materials and processes cause failures
• An appreciation of electronic design and component specification
• A track record of managing your own work and delivering on time
• Clear written communication; failure analysis reports are a big part of the job
• For security clearance purposes you will need to hold British citizenship (sole or dual British)
• Willingness to travel, occasionally internationally

Nice to have

• HNC, HND or degree in electronics or a related discipline
• Background in defence, aerospace or other high-reliability electronics, whether as a test engineer, reliability engineer or electronics technician
