About the recipient

63 year old male in Driffield, who has an incurable brain tumor. Since his diagnosis and treatment to prolong his life he has developed right side weakness and aphasia.

His main interests are sports, which include football, cricket and rugby. He is a big Leeds United fan as we originate from Leeds.

He also likes to listen to music, he has quite an eclectic taste but particularly likes David Bowie, Oasis, Jam, Eagles, Earth Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson.

He likes nothing more than a drive to Hornsea for his favorite fish and chips.

About the role

The main support we require is for respite care in the form of companionship. He has spent the past 10 months either at home or in hospital so has had little social interactions. Ideally we are looking for someone with an outgoing and strong personality to help him come out of his shell.

As some of this respite care could be around mealtimes then preparing a snack or meal for him would be expected. This time will also involve personal care and assisting him with going to the toilet, although he currently manages this himself. He also takes numerous medications throughout the day, so the PA would need experience in giving medication at the correct times.

The role is to generally keep him company and ensure he is safe.

Hours

We are flexible on days and times as the right person to be his companion is more important.

We envisage that the 10 hours would be broken down into 3 blocks of 2x3 and 1x4 hour sessions each week, however there may be occasions when the 10 hours could be used in larger blocks of 8-10 hours in one week.

We are happy to also be flexible to the working and home life pattern of his PA.

• Reliable, honest and trustworthy.
• Flexible in terms of hours where needed.
• Previous experience working with vulnerable adults.
• Adaptable to the potential growing needs of someone with this type of life limiting illness.
• Driver with access to a vehicle.
