About the team

The Journalism and Media team is accredited by the University of the Arts London (UAL) and delivers the Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice. Students studying at Level 3 can choose from a range of specialist pathways, including Journalism, TV, Film and Digital Media, Social Media and Content Creation, and Creative Writing. In addition to its Level 3 provision, the team offers Level 1 and Level 2 Multimedia courses to aid progress to Level 3.

The department is staffed by experienced industry professionals, several of whom continue to work within the media sector alongside their teaching commitments, ensuring that students benefit from current industry knowledge and practice. The curriculum covers a broad range of disciplines, including photography, animation, social media Content, music videos, documentaries, movies and special effects.

The College was awarded an overall Good rating by Ofsted in July 2024, reflecting its commitment to high-quality teaching, learning, and student outcomes.

About the role

As an enthusiastic and talented teacher, you will deliver courses across a range of levels and pathways. UAL is a vocational programme, and students will mostly consist of 16–18-year-olds. We expect content to be delivered to the highest standards using a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning initiatives that engage, motivate, and enable all learners of all abilities to make significant progress from their starting points. You will also be working to address individual learning needs, overcome barriers to learning and encourage autonomous learning.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will be qualified to Level 4 or above and have a wealth of knowledge and industry experience as well as possibly being new to teaching. You should have knowledge and or experience in one or more of the following areas, print, broadcasting, public relations, or digital media. Skills, knowledge and/or experience using the Adobe Creative Suite is essential, industry experience and freelance work is preferable, but not a requirement. The successful applicant should be willing to undertake a full teaching qualification with the college whilst in the role if they do not have one already.
