Job Role: Teaching Assistant

Salary: Scale 2 £28,617.00 - 2 days per week pro rata

Location: Selwyn Primary School, Selwyn Road, London, E13 0ES

Working Days: Thursday and Friday

Contract: Part Time, Fixed Term Contract

About the Role

Selwyn Primary School is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to carry out work supporting children’s learning under the direction of class teachers and the SENCO. In this role, you will share in the corporate responsibility for the education, well-being, and positive behaviour of all pupils while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Take every opportunity to develop pupils’ language, reading, numeracy, and related skills as directed by class teachers.
• Present agreed learning tasks in a clear and stimulating manner to maintain pupil motivation.
• Assist in monitoring progress and provide oral and written feedback to pupils on their attainment to encourage further progress.

SEND & Individual Needs:

• Work with teachers to identify and respond appropriately to pupils' individual needs and areas of difficulty.
• Promote inclusion and reinforce self-esteem for pupils with special educational needs.
• Action appropriate tasks from Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and assist with agreed medical or physical care plans after adequate training.

Classroom & School Operations:

• Help create and maintain an orderly, purposeful learning environment, including producing classroom displays and resources.
• Carry out routine clerical duties (e.g. collecting trip money, distributing letters, producing class lists).
• Supervise pupils during breaktimes and lunchtimes as required.

Safeguarding & Pupil Welfare:

• Maintain an active attitude of "it could happen here" regarding safeguarding, acting at all times in the best interests of the child.
• Uphold the school's health, safety, and equal opportunities policies across all duties.
