What is Shared Lives?

Shared Lives Carers open their homes and hearts to support adults aged 18 and over who may have a learning disability, autism, physical disability, sensory impairment, or mental health needs.

As a Shared Lives Carer, you will provide personalised support in a family and community setting, helping people to live fulfilling, independent lives and become active members of their local community.

Shared Lives offers a unique opportunity to work from home in a flexible, rewarding self-employed role while receiving ongoing support from a dedicated professional team.

You can provide support in several ways:

• Long-Term Support Welcoming someone to live with you as part of your household on a long-term basis.
• Short Breaks (Respite Care) Providing overnight stays, weekends, or longer short-term breaks, giving both the person and their family carers valuable support.

Every arrangement is different, and we carefully match carers and individuals to ensure successful, positive relationships.

What Can You Bring?

You do not need previous care experience to become a Shared Lives Carer.

Our carers come from a wide range of backgrounds, including people who:

• Work full-time or part-time
• Are retired
• Have young families
• Are studying
• Are single parents
• Have fostering or caring experience
• Are looking for a meaningful career change

What matters most is that you:

• Have a genuine desire to support others
• Can provide a welcoming home environment
• Have life experience and good communication skills
• Are committed, reliable and positive
• Want to make a lasting difference in someone's life

Payments

Shared Lives Carers receive payments in recognition of the support they provide.

Long-Term Support

• Care payment: £323.47 per week
• Contribution towards room, food and household costs: £137.01 per week
• Total potential weekly payment: £460.87

Short Breaks / Respite Support

• Care payment: £81.96 per night
• Contribution towards food and household costs: £8.34 per night
• Total potential payment: £90.30 per night
