Burton-On-Trent, Staffordshire Premier Technical Recruitment Software Engineer Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire to £65k + generous benefits Our client has been established for almost a century and are market leaders in the design and manufacture of bespoke rail solutions for supply across the globe, and as a result of continued success and exciting plans for the future, are now seeking to recruit an experienced and professional Software Engineer to join their software design and development team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and based in Burton-on-Trent, the successful Software Engineer candidate will be responsible for the design, development, test and maintenance of software systems supporting locomotive products and associated equipment, and will contribute to new product development, system upgrades and ongoing technical support, ensuring software solutions meet functional, safety, and quality requirements and necessitating close collaboration with the electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering teams. Core responsibilities for this varied and challenging Software Engineer position will include (but not be limited to): Design, development and maintenance of software for embedded systems, control systems, and diagnostic applications. Producing software architectures, specifications, and detailed design documentation in line with engineering standards. Implementation, test, and debug of software to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with requirements. Participation in system integration, validation, and commissioning activities. Collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of software with hardware systems, and supporting fault investigations, RCA and corrective actions related to software issues. Ensuring software development adheres to applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, including coding standards, development processes, and toolchains. Providing technical input to engineering reviews, estimates, and project schedules and ensuring software revisions are tracked and documented across the fleet of machines. Being a key contributor in developing, implementing and maintaining telematic data using IoT cloud-based solutions when remotely monitoring machine operational performance, safety and reliability.It is envisaged that the successful Software Engineer candidate will have attained a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrate at least 5 years' experience in software design and development, preferably within industrial, transportation, or embedded systems environments and a high level of proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, Parker ICAN or similar) and experience with embedded systems, real-time operating systems, or control software. You will possess a strong understanding of software development lifecycle, version control, and configuration management with excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, reliable software with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
