About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Delivery Manager to join a major rail and tram infrastructure programme based in Manchester.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the engineering delivery of modifications to an existing tram control and signalling network, working across both central control systems and trackside signalling equipment.

This is a hands-on delivery role, requiring strong engineering leadership, stakeholder management and experience working within complex rail or transport environments.

The role will support a number of key infrastructure projects across the network, including junction remodelling, interchange modifications and network extensions.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the engineering delivery of modifications to existing tram control and signalling systems.

Provide engineering leadership across design, integration, testing and implementation activities.

Coordinate engineering activities across central control systems and trackside signalling equipment.

Manage engineering interfaces between systems, signalling, infrastructure, operations and other project disciplines.

Ensure engineering deliverables are produced to programme, quality and safety requirements.

Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and specialist suppliers.

Review and manage technical documentation, specifications, design submissions and engineering assurance activities.

Support the identification, management and resolution of technical risks, issues and interfaces.

Work closely with project and programme management teams to ensure engineering activities align with overall delivery milestones.

Manage technical changes and ensure appropriate configuration and change-control processes are followed.

Support testing, commissioning and integration activities associated with modifications to the existing network.

Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant railway standards, legislation, project requirements and assurance processes.

Engage with operational and engineering stakeholders to ensure modifications are deliverable within a live transport environment.

Provide regular engineering progress updates, highlighting risks, dependencies and areas requiring escalation.

Key Projects
The Engineering Delivery Manager will initially support engineering delivery across projects including:

Piccadilly Junction remodelling

Bury Interchange modifications

Velopark extension

The programme involves modifications to existing tram control systems and trackside signalling infrastructure, rather than telecommunications systems.

About You
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Delivery Manager, Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering professional with a background in rail, tram, signalling, control systems or a closely related transport environment.

You will ideally have:

Proven experience managing engineering delivery within a complex rail or transport project environment.

Experience working with railway signalling, control systems or tram control systems.

Experience delivering modifications to existing/live operational infrastructure.

Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle activities, including design, integration, testing and commissioning.

Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical interfaces.

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Experience managing engineering risks, dependencies, change and technical issues.

A structured and delivery-focused approach to engineering management.

Good understanding of engineering assurance and safety requirements within the rail environment.

Ability to work effectively across engineering, project management, operations and supply-chain teams.

Desirable Experience
Tram or light rail experience.

Experience with legacy control systems and signalling equipment.

Experience of junction remodelling or infrastructure modification projects.

Experience working within a live passenger transport environment.

Experience of system integration, testing and commissioning.

Knowledge of relevant UK rail standards and engineering assurance processes.

Previous experience working on major urban transport infrastructure programmes.
