Room Leader – Day Nursery

Location: Greenwich
Salary: £30,000 – £31,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week – 36 hours may be considered for the right candidate
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

About the Role

Joneshouse Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and passionate Room Leader to join a well-established day nursery in Greenwich.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Early Years professional to take a leadership role within a supportive nursery environment. You will be responsible for leading and supporting the staff within your room while ensuring children receive high-quality care, education and learning opportunities.

You will create a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment that supports each child’s individual development while ensuring practice remains in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and support the staff team within the room to deliver consistently high standards of childcare and education.
• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning opportunities that support children’s individual development.
• Oversee the day-to-day organisation and smooth running of the room.
• Support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), identifying additional needs and working closely with the SENCO, parents and external professionals.
• Maintain accurate observations, developmental records and children’s learning journeys.
• Build strong and positive relationships with parents and carers.
• Monitor children’s progress and ensure individual learning and development needs are supported.
• Ensure safeguarding, health and safety and welfare requirements are followed at all times.
• Manage room resources and daily routines effectively.
• Promote an inclusive environment where every child is supported to develop, learn and thrive.
• Encourage and support the continued professional development of team members.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

• A Level 3 Early Years/Childcare qualification or above.
• A minimum of 6 years’ experience working within a day nursery setting.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a Room Leader or within a senior supervisory Early Years role.
• Hands-on experience supporting children with SEND.
• Strong working knowledge of the EYFS framework.
• Good knowledge of safeguarding requirements and Early Years best practice.
• Strong leadership and team-management skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• A genuine commitment to providing high-quality care and education for young children.
