Highway Maintenance Engineer

Our client is seeking a Highway Maintenance Engineer to support a busy programme of highways maintenance and surface dressing works across the southwest network. This contract role is suited to someone with practical highway inspection and site supervision experience who can manage schemes from initial assessment through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out highway and site inspections, identifying defects and assessing required remedial works
• Assess approximately 200 sites for patching works and support the preparation of surface dressing programmes
• Prepare inspection records, site reports, measurements and works information for carriageways, footways, kerbs and associated repairs
• Scope, measure and price maintenance works using schedule-of-rates information
• Produce structured contractor work packages and coordinate upcoming maintenance schemes
• Supervise works on the highway network, ensuring quality, compliance and safe delivery
• Complete and review CDM documentation, supporting NRSWA, streetworks and Chapter 8 compliance checks
• Use Confirm Connect to record inspections, site information and work requirements while maintaining accurate auditable records

Job Requirements:

• Experience in highways maintenance, highway inspection and site supervision
• Knowledge of highway construction, road surfacing and surface dressing works
• Understanding of highway health and safety requirements, safe systems of work and risk controls
• Knowledge of Chapter 8 and highway traffic management requirements
• Experience of managing highway maintenance schemes and liaising with contractors
• Ability to measure and mark out sites and prepare accurate work packages
• Ability to work independently, manage workloads and prioritise site activities effectively
• Valid UK driving licence and access to a car

Working Arrangements:

• Three days on site and two days in the office, subject to operational requirements
• Monday to Friday working pattern, with hours from 09:00 to 17:00
• 37 hours per week
• High-visibility jacket and safety shoes required when working on site
