Design Engineers

Key Responsibilities

As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will:

• Lead end-to-end project delivery, taking responsibility for health & safety, technical delivery, quality, programme, and budget.
• Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
• Help shape how we deliver our services, spotting opportunities to bring in complementary capability from the wider WSP UK and international business.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring our work meets agreed outcomes and delivers a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Support the development and implementation of new ways of working, including innovative approaches, new services, and digital solutions.
• Contribute to the delivery of our Future Ready and Net Zero programme.
• Promote best practice across the Asset Design team and support client-led initiatives.
• Support bid work, including input into proposals, resourcing plans, and budget development.
• Line manage, mentor, and support the development of graduate engineers and degree apprentices.
• Assist with recruitment activity and the continued growth of the civil engineering team.
• Continue to develop your technical expertise and strengthen your leadership and management skills.

What we're looking for

You'll be able to demonstrate:

• A degree in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered status, or strong progress towards professional membership (ICE or CIWEM).
• Proven experience leading engineering design teams, including civil engineers and supporting disciplines.
• Track record of delivering projects to agreed budgets and programmes.
• Experience acting as a checker or technical approver on linear civil infrastructure projects and/or industrial/process-related design.
• Experience coaching and mentoring junior engineers, supporting both technical and professional development.
• Strong client-facing capability and relationship management experience.
• Confident written, verbal, and presentation skills.
