SEMH Base Secondary Specialist Resource Base Learning Support Assistant

About this Role

The SEMH Base Learning Support Assistant plays an important role in supporting students placed within the SEMH Base who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Working under the direction of the SEMH Base Lead Teacher and the Pastoral Lead, the Learning Support Assistant will support students’ academic learning, social development and emotional wellbeing. The role involves delivering targeted interventions with individuals or groups of students and providing classroom support to ensure students can access learning and develop positive behaviours.

Experience of supporting young people with SEMH needs is essential. Knowledge and practical application of Thrive approaches, trauma-informed practice and attachment aware strategies are highly desirable.

The Learning Support Assistant will help create a safe, structured and supportive environment where students feel respected, understood and able to engage with learning.

The role requires a reliable and flexible team member who can build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
• Experience working within a school or educational setting
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students
• Resilience and proactive attitude in challenging situations
• Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) are advantageous
