FPGA Engineer – Consultant
Our client is a rapidly growing technology and engineering organisation based near Cambridge, delivering innovative solutions across advanced engineering, defence, communications and security.
They are looking for an FPGA Engineer – Consultant to join a multidisciplinary engineering team working on technically challenging projects from early-stage research and proof-of-concept through to working prototypes and deployed solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for an FPGA Engineer to work on varied projects, collaborate with experienced engineers and specialists, and develop technology that addresses complex real-world challenges.
The Role
As an FPGA Engineer, you will be involved throughout the technology development lifecycle, from requirements capture and architecture through to FPGA design, implementation, testing, documentation and delivery.
You will work alongside engineers, scientists and other technical specialists to develop innovative solutions across a range of applications.
Your responsibilities may include:
* FPGA firmware design and development using VHDL and/or Verilog
* Working with FPGA development toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus
* FPGA architecture, implementation, debugging and verification
* Developing and implementing digital signal processing algorithms
* Contributing to system architecture and technical design
* Supporting prototype development and hardware/software integration
* Testing, debugging and documenting designs
* Working across multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Taking concepts from initial proof-of-concept through to functional prototypes
The variety of projects means you could be working on different technical challenges rather than being tied to a single product or application.
About You
We're looking for FPGA Engineers with a strong technical background and a relevant degree, who have experience designing and implementing FPGA-based technology solutions.
You should have experience with:
* FPGA firmware development
* VHDL and/or Verilog
* FPGA development environments such as Vivado or Quartus
* Digital design and implementation
* Design verification, debugging and testing
Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms would be highly advantageous.

* DSP or system modelling using MATLAB/Simulink
* Electronics hardware development
* Embedded software development using C/C++
* Linux-based embedded systems
* Radar technology
* Communications systems
* Software Defined Radio (SDR)
* Digital communications and signal processing
We are open to candidates from a range of technical and industry backgrounds. Previous experience within the defence sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
The role could suit engineers at different stages of their careers, from strong graduates through to experienced FPGA specialists, depending on the level of technical experience demonstrated.
The benefits package includes:
* Annual performance/profit-related bonus
* 10% employer pension contribution
* Private medical insurance, including dependant cover
* Life insurance
* 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
* Enhanced parental leave
