Senior Planner – UK Infrastructure

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join a leading UK Infrastructure business, working on a major scheme based in York.

The successful candidate will take a lead role in the planning and project controls function, establishing high standards across both the pre-construction and construction phases. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust programmes, monitoring progress and performance, and providing accurate planning information to support the wider project and management teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of the baseline contract programme, incorporating all aspects of design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Ensure programmes are fully logic-linked, clearly structured and include an identified critical path.
• Develop and maintain the construction/target programme, identifying opportunities for improvement against the contractual programme.
• Prepare tender event programmes to support the procurement of subcontractors, including design release, lead-in periods and key procurement activities.
• Maintain accurate electronic records and documentation relating to planning and programmes, utilising the project Common Data Environment (CDE).
• Provide programme and planning information to support the project management team and wider business.
• Develop 4D graphical models, where required, or 2D phasing plans to demonstrate construction sequencing, phasing and logistics.
• Utilise the construction programme to support the preparation of project preliminaries, including staff resource requirements, logistics and temporary works.
• Work collaboratively with the supply chain to develop detailed project programmes covering design, lead-in periods, construction durations, plant and labour requirements.
• Review programme risks and opportunities and identify appropriate mitigation measures.
• Incorporate float and time risk allowances into programmes where appropriate.
• Monitor programme performance and provide clear reporting on progress, risks, opportunities and key milestones.
• Promote a consistent approach to planning and project controls across the project lifecycle.

Experience & Skills

The successful candidate will ideally have experience in a senior planning role within the construction or infrastructure sector, with a strong understanding of programme development, project controls and construction sequencing.

Experience or training in the following would be advantageous:

• Advanced construction project management software, including progress analysis and S-curve reporting.
• Management of project costs and resources.
• Advanced Primavera P6 training and experience.
• People management and leadership.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree, diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Qualification in construction management or a related discipline.
• Relevant certification or demonstrable experience in planning and programme management software.
• Membership of an appropriate professional body, where applicable.
