DESIGN MANAGER

Water and Wastewater Engineering

We are recruiting a Design Manager to lead the successful delivery of multidisciplinary engineering design projects across water, wastewater and utilities infrastructure programmes.

The opportunity

You will take ownership of design projects throughout their lifecycle, coordinating technical, commercial and operational teams to achieve agreed safety, programme, cost and quality outcomes.

Acting as the central point of contact for design delivery, you will bring together civil, structural, process, mechanical, electrical and ICA disciplines while maintaining clear communication with clients and project stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

* Plan and manage design projects from initiation and definition through delivery, monitoring and closeout.

* Agree project scope, deliverables, milestones and programmes with technical and commercial teams.

* Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs and ensure integrated, buildable outputs are delivered on time.

* Monitor project budgets, costs, fee performance, forecasts and resource requirements.

* Identify and manage delivery, commercial and technical risks and opportunities.

* Lead client meetings, design reviews and progress updates.

* Develop strong working relationships with clients, delivery teams and other project stakeholders.

* Promote safe-by-design principles and compliance with CDM 2015, quality systems and project governance.

* Provide clear direction to project teams and contribute to continuous improvement across design delivery.

About you

* A degree or equivalent experience in engineering, construction, project management or a related discipline.

* Typically three to seven years of project or design-delivery experience within engineering, infrastructure or construction.

* A sound understanding of programme, cost, risk, resource and stakeholder management.

* Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering projects against agreed deadlines.

* Strong communication, organisation and leadership skills.

Desirable experience

* Experience within water, wastewater or utilities frameworks.

* Knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial change management.

* APM PMQ, PRINCE2 or an equivalent project-management qualification.

* CDM 2015 awareness.

* IOSH Managing Safely, CSCS or EUSR Water Hygiene certification.
