About the role

Lead Social Worker / Team Manager

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Social Worker to step into a pivotal position within a well-regarded children's charity dedicated to supporting bereaved children and families. Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Services, the post holder will manage a dedicated team of bereavement support workers, oversee initial helpline triage, and lead safeguarding assessments.

This role offers a distinct shift from the relentless pace of statutory frontline teams, providing a collaborative, warm, and significantly calmer working culture. We are seeking a Senior Practitioner or Experienced Social Worker who brings at least 5 years experience within a Children & Families background, prioritising deep clinical judgement, safeguarding rigour, and hands-on family support expertise above extensive formal management tenure.

Job Summary
  • Location: London (Hybrid: 3 days office-based, 2 days working from home)
  • Salary: £50,275 - £58,400 per annum (dependent on experience)
  • Contracted Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Reporting To: Director of Clinical Services
Responsibilities
  • Providing direct line management, operational direction, and clinical support to bereavement support workers, volunteers, and placement students.
  • Managing frontline referrals, telephone helpline triage, and conducting robust initial safeguarding assessments.
  • Carrying a small dedicated caseload of highly complex family cases, serving as the lead clinical contact for complex risk management.
  • Re-establishing operational consistency, team stabilisation, and staff confidence within an agile service structure.
  • Balancing statutory safeguarding frameworks with a compassionate, early-intervention charity model without adding unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary art therapists and clinical executive leadership to maintain high standards of care and compliance.
Qualifications
  • Qualified Social Worker status.
  • Social Work England registration required.
  • At least 5 years of robust experience within a Children & Families background.
  • Proven ability to exercise deep clinical judgement and maintain safeguarding rigour.
  • Hands-on experience in family support and complex risk management.
