About the role
Location: Erdington
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a supportive Teaching Assistant to start immediately. This Teaching Assistant position will involve working with children and young people aged 11 to 19 with a wide range of special educational needs, including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils also have speech, language and communication difficulties and require tailored support to access learning, develop independence, and build confidence.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, and SEMH needs.
- Help implement individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and personalised learning programmes.
- Adapt classroom resources and activities to meet a range of learning styles and abilities.
- Use visual aids, communication strategies, and differentiated approaches to support understanding and engagement.
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
- Support pupils in developing independence, life skills, and confidence both in and out of the classroom.
- Work closely with teachers, families, and other professionals to ensure pupils achieve the best possible outcomes.
This Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and supporting them to achieve success both academically and personally.
What You’ll Need
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, autism, SEMH needs, or learning difficulties.
- A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A team-focused attitude and willingness to learn.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may require additional emotional and behavioural support.
