Primary Purpose of the Role
The Head of Industry has a dual focus on customer satisfaction and the performance of his or her organisation. He or she is responsible for the functional management of the entire ecosystem within his or her area of authority. He or she is responsible for deploying the Industrial strategy, including the human, financial and physical resources needed to ensure proper implementation of the policies and plans adopted in the short, medium and long term.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
• Is accountable for all activities to complete the physical information flow, including industrialisation/preparation for production, planning, execution of procurement, production and shipping/logistics to the agreed customer - executing the S&OP Supply Plan
• Manage the activities covered by the industrial job family: industrial supply chain (material planning, logistics…), manufacturing (integration/test/repair), industrial process engineering (industrialisation) and industrial excellence (digital industry, lean, transformation, industrial performances, continuous improvement)
• Guarantee the industrial/manufacturing engineering of new products (from the design phase) and the reliability and competitiveness of the technological solutions - Is accountable for industrialisation across the supply chain
• Guarantee that internal manufacturing meet quality, time and cost expectations by optimising inventory, supply, industrial solution and WIP (work in progress) - Is responsible for the UPC (estimate, delivery and improvement) of recurring products, post-PRR (Production Readiness Review) acceptance
• Manage the timely introduction of effective Digital Industrial technologies (I4.0) ensuring competitive advantage for production processes
• Ensure the appropriate application of industrial toolsets (ERP, QMS etc.) so they contribute to the effective deployment, maintenance and improvement of industrial processes
• Play a key role in the introduction and management of change, and the development of a continuous improvement culture
• Cost centre management - Manage and control the operating budget for industry within the defined perimeter
• Has the capacity to influence and mobilise peer networks in relevant specialists and domains to support and improve the industrial activity
• Is responsible for the strict adherence to current regulations in terms of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) across the site industrial perimeter
• Represent industrial operations at bid/gate reviews with the authority to approve the industrial solution (within the agreed industrial strategy) and use delegated authorities appropriately
• Is responsible for the industrial delivery (end to end) for the Domains at local site
• Is responsible for the design and deployment of the industrial/supply chain strategy to meet the strategic needs of the Domains as defined by SBP (Strategic Business Plan) Ops
• Act as the industrial representative within supported business lines (Domain) on all industrial proposals and programmes (including supporting continuous improvement and change management within Domain activity.) Promote the use of industrial services where strong interest exists to maintain and support future business needs

• On Quality / On Time Delivery / On Cost - new build and repair against targets set by Industrial/Operations Directorate
• Cost Centre management - performance to budget
• Vision: Define, create and articulate a vision of the future to which both customers and internal team buy in to, so that the industrial team have clear direction for the next 3 years

Essential
• Effective management of complex industrial activities or projects (High Mix / Low Volume)
• Is prepared to act courageously and take appropriate risks
• Strong understanding of lean aspects (continuous level pulled flow, heijunka, layout, visual control) and industry 4.0
• Identifies and sponsors opportunities to innovate
• Able to adapt engagement style to audiences at all levels - acts with ambition and integrity
• Excellent communication skills (understanding expectations of stakeholders)

Experience
Essential
• Min. 10 years’ experience in senior operational role
• Management of complex, multi discipline teams
• Experience of complex manufacturing environments and supply chains
• Experience/understanding of total supply chain disciplines (Industrial process/manufacturing Engineering, Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing operations, Supplier Quality Assurance, Logistics/Delivery)
• Use of MRP/ERP and other industrial toolsets eg. MES
• Demonstrable success leading and developing diverse teams
• Change management expertise

Desirable
• Experience in full lifecycle of product (bid-design-development-production-delivery-service)
• Experience within world-class similar industrial activity
• Defence manufacturing (low/medium/high volume)
• Experience of Industry 4.0 (implementation or strategic development)

Qualifications
Essential
• Degree in relevant engineering/manufacturing discipline
• Lean mastering (eg. 5S, Level Pull Flow, Kaizen, etc.)

Desirable
• Green Belt qualified
• APICS certified
• MBA or DMS
