About the role

Oasis Academy Mayfield is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Liaison Officer (EBSA & Family Support Worker) to join our Attendance Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of young people and their families, helping them overcome barriers to education and achieve regular school attendance.


Job Overview


You will work closely with students experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), their families, academy staff and external agencies to provide targeted interventions, pastoral support and effective reintegration plans. Through building positive relationships and delivering bespoke support, you will play a key role in improving attendance, wellbeing and educational outcomes.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Experience of working in a pastoral, family support, education, youth work or community-based role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, child protection and attendance processes.
  • Experience of building positive relationships with children, young people and families.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including parents/carers and external agencies.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Understanding of SEND and the barriers that can affect school attendance.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, resilience and discretion when working with sensitive and complex situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable

  • Experience of supporting students with Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).
  • Experience of multi-agency working, including social care, health services or other support agencies.
  • First Aid qualification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students experiencing EBSA through mentoring, attendance interventions and reintegration planning.
  • Build strong partnerships between the academy, families and external support services.
  • Deliver targeted interventions, breakfast clubs and small-group support programmes.
  • Support parents and carers to engage positively with their child's education.
  • Signpost and advocate for families requiring additional support.
  • Work collaboratively with attendance, safeguarding, SEND and inclusion teams.
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to attendance improvement strategies.
  • Support the induction of new students and families into the academy community.

Full time salary is £30,023 - £32,046 FTE, with the actual salary being £26,857 - £29,763 based on 37 hours per week Term-Time, plus two weeks.
