OR115151 – Private Sector Housing Enforcement Officer

Work Pattern: 36 hours a week,

PAYE Pay Rate: £45.84 per hour

Main Purpose

To investigate housing complaints, inspect private rented properties, identify hazards and ensure landlords meet legal housing standards.

Typical Day

• Investigate housing complaints.

• Visit and inspect properties.

• Identify hazards such as damp, pests, drainage and poor conditions.

• Speak with tenants, landlords and agents.

• Provide advice and guidance.

• Record findings and manage cases.

• Take enforcement action where necessary.

• Good communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to investigate and assess housing problems.

• Good attention to detail and report writing.

• Ability to manage a caseload and priorities work.

• Understanding of housing standards and legislation.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Confident dealing with landlords and tenants.

Essential Qualifications / Requirements

• Relevant housing, property, environmental health or similar experience/qualification.

• Basic understanding of housing hazards and standards.

• Good IT and administration skills.

• Ability to carry out property inspections.

• Ability to travel to properties as required.

• Knowledge of HHSRS and housing legislation is desirable.
