This is an exciting opportunity to join the NEXUS to Core Delivery Team and contribute to a major Royal Air Force digital transformation programme. As a Work Package Delivery Manager, you will lead delivery activity across one of the programme’s key work packages, working with stakeholders to manage progress, risks, issues and dependencies while ensuring strong governance, clear documentation and effective reporting. The role is well suited to someone with project management experience, strong communication skills and the ability to prioritise work across teams in line with business needs. Given the nature of the role and the requirement to be heavily involved in the day-to-day management of a wide range of teams, technical programmes and projects, job share, or part-time work is not a viable option.

Job description

This role is part of the NEXUS to Core Delivery Team. NEXUS is the Royal Air Force (RAF) Air Command and Control (Air C2) transformation programme. The programme consists of the delivery the Air Cloud Hosting Environment; the Air Information Platform; experimentation; and a suite of operational applications. As a NEXUS Work Package Delivery Manager, you will be responsible via the NEXUS Senior Delivery Manager for the following:

  • Lead the delivery of one of the Work Packages within the NEXUS programme.
  • Own and report on all work package risks, issues, dependencies, assumptions and opportunities via regular risk working groups, programme working groups and programme boards
  • Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring they adhere to scope, budget, and time constraints.
  • Monitor Work Package performance, provide constructive feedback and maintain high productivity and quality standards.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including others delivery team members, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Address concerns, conflicts, or misunderstandings that may arise between the parties, seeking amicable resolutions and promoting a collaborative working environment.
  • Establish and maintain effective Work Package governance structures, processes, and documentation to support Work Package management activities.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, specifications, and progress reports, for monitoring, transparency, knowledge transfer and LFE.
  • Prepare and present regular Work Package status reports to stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks, and issues and escalating via the relevant stakeholders as required

Person specification

Essential:

  • Previous project management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the credibility to build positive relationships within and outside of the immediate team.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise your workload and that of your teams according to business needs.

Desirable:

  • Experience in MOD project management and project delivery
  • Recognised qualification in project or programme management Agile Practitioner or similar recognised project management qualification.
  • Experience in managing complex digital projects.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement. All office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to site capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of office attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
