About the role
Thomas Tallis School is a flourishing and popular school situated in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We currently have over 2,000 pupils on roll, including around 700 students in our highly competitive sixth form. We strive for excellence in all that we do, underpinned by our vision of education to understand the world and change it for the better.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly organised Lead Technician to join our supportive and successful Design & Technology team. This is a key role within the faculty, responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the D&T workshops, the provision and management of materials and equipment, and the effective deployment of the D&T technician team.
Working under the direction of the Curriculum Leader for Design & Technology, the successful candidate will line manage two D&T Technicians and play a central role in ensuring that the workshops, tools and machinery are safe, well maintained and appropriately resourced. The role will involve supporting teachers and students across the D&T curriculum, contributing to specialist resources and assisting with individual student projects at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.
We are looking for someone who has:
proven experience as a D&T Technician, ideally within a school or similar environment
a strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a Design & Technology workshop, including equipment maintenance, risk assessments, solvent storage and protective clothing
experience of maintaining and organising tools, machinery, equipment and workshop resources
the ability to lead and deploy a small team effectively, creating positive working relationships with staff and students
A first aid qualification, together with an understanding of the treatment of injuries that may occur during D&T activities, would be desirable.
We can offer you:
a varied and rewarding role supporting both staff and students across a broad range of D&T activities
- the opportunity to play a leading role in a successful and creative Design & Technology faculty
- the opportunity to develop your technical, organisational and leadership skills
- excellent facilities and a well-resourced working environment
- an inclusive school community committed to staff wellbeing and development
- a school with humane management principles and a strong commitment to safeguarding and equality
If you are an organised, proactive and technically skilled individual who is passionate about Design & Technology and committed to maintaining a safe, well-run and inspiring learning environment, we would welcome your application.
