We are looking for a caring, committed and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join our friendly team in a small primary school.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children to overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and emotionally. The successful candidate will work closely with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing tailored support across our school.
The RoleAs a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with individual pupils and small groups of children, both within the classroom and in our internal SEND/SEMH provision.
You will:

  • Provide nurturing, consistent and individualised support for children with SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Work alongside class teachers to adapt learning and ensure pupils can access the curriculum.
  • Support children both within the classroom and within our internal provision, depending on their individual needs.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils and help them to build confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Support children with emotional regulation, social skills and positive behaviour.
  • Deliver or support targeted interventions and personalised learning activities.
  • Help pupils develop their communication, social and emotional skills.
  • Contribute to creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENDCo and other professionals to support pupils’ individual needs.
  • Observe and monitor pupils’ progress, contributing to records and reviews where appropriate.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure every child feels valued, understood and able to succeed.

About You
We are looking for someone who is:

  • Warm, patient and nurturing, with a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Understanding of, or enthusiastic about learning more about, SEND and SEMH.
  • Calm and consistent, particularly when supporting children who may experience emotional or behavioural difficulties.
  • Able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
  • Adaptable and able to respond to the individual needs of pupils.
  • A good team player who is willing to work closely with teachers and other professionals.
  • Committed to promoting children’s independence, wellbeing and self-esteem.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and willing to get involved in the wider life of our school.

Previous experience of working with children with SEND or SEMH would be highly desirable, although we are also keen to hear from applicants with the right attitude, values and commitment who are looking to develop their experience in this area.

Why Join Us?We are a small, welcoming primary school where relationships are at the heart of what we do. Our size allows us to know our children well and provide a genuinely personalised approach to their education and wellbeing.

You will be joining a supportive team where your contribution will make a real difference to children’s lives. We are committed to professional development and will support the successful candidate to develop their skills and knowledge in SEND and SEMH.

If you are passionate about helping children feel safe, valued and successful, we would love to hear from you.
