Primary TA – SEND

Are you a passionate and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant looking for an opportunity to make a real difference to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN/SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, patient and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our small, welcoming primary school. This is a rewarding role for someone who is committed to supporting children with additional needs and helping every pupil reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with children with SEND and SEMH needs, providing targeted support both within the classroom and in our internal SEND/SEMH provision.
About the RoleAs a SEND Teaching Assistant in our primary school, you will play an important role in supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, emotional development and independence.
Working closely with class teachers, the SENDCo and wider school team, you will provide individual and small-group support tailored to the needs of each child.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND, SEN and SEMH needs.
• Working with children both in the mainstream classroom and within our internal SEND/SEMH provision.
• Supporting pupils to access the primary school curriculum through differentiated and adapted learning activities.
• Developing positive, trusting relationships with children who may have additional learning, communication, social, emotional or behavioural needs.
• Supporting children with emotional regulation, social communication, confidence, resilience and positive behaviour.
• Delivering and supporting targeted SEND interventions and personalised learning programmes.
• Helping children to develop greater independence, self-esteem and engagement with learning.
• Providing consistent and nurturing behaviour support where required.
• Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Working closely with teachers and the SENDCo to implement individual support strategies and meet pupils’ additional needs.
• Monitoring and recording pupils’ progress and contributing to relevant assessments, reviews and support plans.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to ensure children receive appropriate and effective support.
• Promoting inclusion, equality and positive attitudes towards SEND throughout the school.

About You
We are looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who genuinely wants to make a difference to children with SEND and SEMH.
You will ideally have experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Support Assistant within a primary school or similar setting.

Experience and QualificationsPrevious experience supporting children with SEND, SEN, SEMH, autism, communication needs, learning difficulties or behavioural needs would be highly desirable.
However, we are also happy to consider candidates who may be at an earlier stage of their career. If you have the right attitude, values, patience and commitment to working with children with additional needs, we would be keen to hear from you.
