About the role
Job Purpose
To undertake the day-to-day repair, servicing and maintenance of a range of plant, agricultural and grounds maintenance machinery, including mowers, tractors, tractor attachments and hand tools.
The postholder will ensure machinery is maintained and repaired to a high standard, supporting the effective and efficient operation of the service. The role will also involve maintaining appropriate stock levels of machine parts, keeping accurate repair records and undertaking Mobile Fitter duties when required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, inspection, maintenance and repairs of plant, agricultural and grounds maintenance machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and identify appropriate repair solutions.
- Maintain and repair machinery including mowers, tractors, tractor attachments, hand tools and other associated equipment.
- Ensure all repairs and servicing are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
- Make effective use of available tools, equipment, parts and other resources to maximise operational efficiency.
- Undertake preventative maintenance to minimise machinery downtime and ensure equipment remains safe and operational.
- Maintain accurate records of machinery inspections, servicing, repairs and maintenance.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of spare parts, components and consumables.
- Identify parts and equipment required for repairs and liaise with relevant colleagues or suppliers as necessary.
- Undertake Mobile Fitter duties at various locations when required.
- Travel to operational sites to inspect, diagnose and repair machinery where necessary.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety requirements, manufacturer guidance and organisational procedures.
- Report any significant defects, safety concerns or recurring mechanical problems to the Team Leader.
- Assist with the testing and return to service of machinery following repairs.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop and working environment.
- Keep up to date with developments in plant, agricultural and grounds maintenance machinery.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the level of the post.
Health and Safety
The postholder will be responsible for working safely at all times and complying with relevant Health and Safety legislation, risk assessments, safe systems of work and organisational policies.
Particular attention must be given to the safe use of machinery, tools, lifting equipment, vehicles and workshop equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Level 2 qualification in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Plant Maintenance or a related discipline.
- Experience of repairing, servicing or maintaining plant, agricultural, horticultural or grounds maintenance machinery.
- Practical mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work safely and effectively with a range of mechanical tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Desirable
- Experience working with ride-on or commercial mowers.
- Experience working with tractors and tractor attachments.
- Experience of small engines and hand-held grounds maintenance equipment.
- Experience undertaking Mobile Fitter duties.
- Additional qualifications relating to plant, agricultural or horticultural machinery.
- Experience working within a workshop or local authority environment.

Working Hours
The post is 37 hours per week.
Normal working hours are:
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00am – 4:00pm
- Friday: 8:00am – 3:30pm
The role may occasionally require flexibility to meet operational requirements.
Driving Requirement
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the role may involve travelling to different operational locations and undertaking Mobile Fitter duties.

- Maintain machinery to a safe and serviceable standard.
- Complete repairs and servicing efficiently and to a high standard.
- Minimise machinery downtime wherever reasonably possible.
