Job Title: Assistant Technician

About the Role

24-7 recruitment are looking for an Assistant Technician, working directly below the Shift Technician within a small, tight knit team of four (Technician, Assistant Technician, and 2 x Operators). You will support the daily running of the line and help maintain equipment to a high standard including planned preventative maintenance to ensure machinery operates at its optimum capability at all times.

• Schedule: Continental shifts (2 x 12 hour days, 2 x 12 hour nights, followed by 4 days off)

Key Responsibilities

• Shift & Team Management: Oversee the efficient running of the Recycling department shift and two Operators, working a 4 shift rotating system and ensuring continuous material supply through effective delegation.
• Health, Safety & Housekeeping: Maintain rigorous standards of Health & Safety, hygiene, and overall department cleanliness at all times.
• Quality Control: Ensure product quality at every stage, including infeed material quality, flake cleaning, moisture content, and processed pellet quality.
• Technical Compliance: Work closely with Quality and Technical teams to keep operations within specification, maintain auditable product traceability, and accurately record all data transactions (including ERP and machine truth data).
• Equipment Optimization: Drive machinery performance to meet KPIs, carry out planned maintenance activities, perform daily equipment care, and take a logical approach to troubleshooting.
• Process Optimization: Correctly calculate water and chemical ratios for optimal product cleaning, continuously monitor machinery, and help develop process flows so the facility operates to a showcase standard.

Candidate Specification

• Technical Background: Hands on mechanical experience working with machinery, ideally within a manufacturing or mechanical engineering environment.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead a small team, direct workflows, and train, motivate, and inspire those around you.
• Industry Experience: Production/manufacturing background and previous experience working rotating shift patterns, including nights.
• Mindset: A proactive, enthusiastic, and hands on individual with a passion for helping shape a growing recycling facility comfortable exploring new solutions rather than expecting ready made answers.
• Core Competencies: Effective communication skills and computer literacy (confident using Word, Excel, and internal ERP systems).

Salary & Benefits

• Probationary Period (5 months): £13.41 per hour (£29,388.82 p.a.) based on working continental shifts (2 x 12 hour days, 2 x 12 hour nights, followed by 4 days off)
• Post Probation Salary: £32,654.24 per annum upon successful completion, working the same continental shift pattern
