About the role

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and hardworking Caretaker to join our happy team and help look after our school buildings and wonderful site with extensive grounds. As Caretaker, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties including maintenance, site security, specialist cleaning and supervision of contract cleaners; ensuring the buildings and grounds are well maintained and meet all Health & Safety requirements. You will be supported by the BSJT Premises Manager and site-specific training will be given.

Do you have the necessary general DIY skills, including painting and decorating, and are physically fit for some lifting and carrying? If so, you might be the person we are looking for, as we are looking for an individual who has:

  • A proven record of general DIY skills and willingness to learn new ones
  • The ability to use domestic power tools for appropriate repair and maintenance tasks
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • A sense of humour and can work as part of a team
  • Reliability and flexibility as well as good communication skills

The position is 25 hours per week all year round. There is some flexibility with start and end times for the right person. The salary for this post is APT & C points 6 - 9 plus London Fringe (£25,989pa - £27,24pa + £1,045pa paid pro-rata). The actual pro-rata range is £17,588pa - £18,122pa + £706pa fringe.

Applicants should be educated to post 16 level or above and have a high degree of common sense. Experience of working with children and the willingness to undertake suitable training is essential as is the ability to maintain good working relationships with all staff and visitors. The post holder has a responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare and safety of our pupils in accordance with the BSJT Child Protection policy and the school’s Code of Conduct policy.
