About the role

SEN Teacher - Near Ely & Surrounding Areas

Are you an inspiring, patient, and adaptable teacher looking to make a profound difference in special educational needs? Whether you are seeking the balance and autonomy of day-to-day cover, or looking for the deep professional reward of leading a class in a long-term position, we have immediate opportunities tailored to your needs.

We are currently partnering with a range of specialist SEN schools, alternative provisions, and medical/resource units near Ely and across East Cambridgeshire. We are experiencing high demand for Qualified Teachers who are passionate about delivering tailored, child-centered education to pupils with diverse learning requirements.

Whether you are an experienced SEN Teacher, a mainstream teacher looking to transition into special education, or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) with a strong foundation in differentiated learning, we can help you find your ideal role.

Choose Your Ideal Way of Working:
  • Day-to-Day Cover: Enjoy total flexibility over when and where you teach. Choose your preferred working days to fit around your personal commitments, gain insight into different SEN environments, and deliver pre-planned lessons without the burden of ongoing assessment or marking.

  • Long-Term Opportunities: For teachers seeking continuity and deeper classroom impact, we offer placements spanning a term or a full academic year. In these roles, you will take ownership of class planning, track holistic development, and build strong partnerships with pupils, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver creative, highly differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning styles and targets outlined in pupils' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Teach pupils with a wide spectrum of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe or Complex Learning Difficulties (SLD/PMLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

  • Foster a safe, low-arousal, and nurturing environment that promotes emotional regulation, confidence, and independence.

  • Lead and deploy classroom Teaching Assistants effectively to deliver high-quality 1:1 and small group interventions.

  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to handle challenging behaviours with composure and empathy.

  • Collaborate closely with SENCOs, therapists, external agencies, and parents to support each child's physical, emotional, and academic progress.

What We Look For:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with relevant experience.

  • Proven experience teaching or supporting children or young people with special educational needs (in specialist or mainstream settings).

  • Strong capability to adapt curriculum delivery to suit varying developmental levels rather than just chronological age.

  • A resilient, calm, and proactive approach paired with exceptional classroom management skills.

  • Knowledge of alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) and de-escalation training (e.g., Team-Teach, MAPA, STEPs) is highly desirable.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).

Benefits of Working With Us:
  • Competitive daily rates of pay, paid weekly and reflective of your specialist skills and teaching experience.

  • A dedicated local consultant with deep knowledge of the SEN education sector near Ely and East Cambridgeshire.

  • Complete freedom to manage and update your availability as your schedule changes.

  • Access to specialised CPD training opportunities to further develop your SEN expertise.

  • Excellent routes into permanent teaching contracts in local specialist provisions.
