Assistant Accountant / Accountant (Property Services)

Salary:

Band E: £39,481 – £45,529 pro rata per annum

Band F: £46,579 – £53,051 pro rata. Salary on appointment dependent on experience

Hours: 22.5 hours per week
Location: Council House, Solihull

We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Assistant Accountant / Accountant supporting Corporate Property Services at Solihull Council.

This is a varied role where you will combine financial management responsibilities across a diverse Property Services function. Working closely with the Property Services Management Team, you will provide financial insight and support to help inform strategic and operational decision-making. You will also work collaboratively with technical and operational colleagues to ensure resources are managed effectively, support service delivery and drive value for money across the service.

You will play a key role throughout the full financial cycle, including budget setting, forecasting, financial monitoring and the production of final accounts, while providing professional advice and analysis to support decision making.

The post offers a development pathway from Band E to Band F, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who is either part-qualified and studying towards a professional qualification or a qualified accountant looking to develop their business partnering experience in a high-profile service area.

You will be:

  • Supporting budget setting, forecasting, financial monitoring and the production of final accounts for Corporate Property Services.
  • Provide financial support to Property Services management team, helping them understand budgets, costs and financial performance.
  • Working closely with Technical and Operational staff to support effective financial decision-making.
  • Producing meaningful financial reports, forecasts and analysis to support service delivery and long-term planning.
  • Developing business cases and financial models to inform investment and service improvement decision.
  • Supporting the management of income due to the services from external agreements, invoicing and financial information within the CAFM system and other corporate systems.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, deliver efficiencies and maximise value for money across the service.

At Band F level:

  • Lead the financial process including budget setting, forecasting and final accounts for Property Services
  • Provide financial information and analysis to Property Services Operational Boards.
  • Drive improvements to financial planning, monitoring and reporting processes.
  • Work with the management team across Property Services to identify solutions to financial pressures and deliver efficiencies.

Qualifications (depending on level):

  • Band E: Part-qualified and actively progressing towards a professional accounting qualification (CCAB or CIMA), including recent completion of at least one examination, module or formal assessment, and a clear commitment to achieving the full qualification.
  • Band F: Fully qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA)
