About the role

Lunchtime Assistant

Millbrook Primary School is looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Lunchtime Assistant to join our team and help create safe, happy and engaging lunchtimes where every child feels valued, included and supported.

As a Lunchtime Assistant, you will play an important role in making lunchtime a positive experience for all children. You will encourage positive behaviour, support play and social interaction, promote children’s wellbeing and help create an environment where friendships, independence and confidence can flourish.

This is also an excellent opportunity for someone considering a career in education or looking to gain valuable experience working in a school environment. Many colleagues begin their careers in education through support roles such as this, developing skills and experience that can lead to wider opportunities within school.

About the role

As a Lunchtime Assistant, you will:

  • Supervise children in the dining hall, playground and around the school site, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
  • Help maintain a calm, orderly and welcoming lunchtime environment.
  • Encourage positive relationships, good manners and responsible behaviour.
  • Promote active, inclusive and positive play, helping children to engage with others and enjoy their lunchtime.
  • Follow school procedures for wet play and indoor lunchtimes.
  • Support playground activities, including working alongside Playground Leaders to promote safe and engaging play opportunities.
  • Help children resolve minor disagreements and develop positive social skills.
  • Carry out associated duties, including cleaning spillages, tidying tables and ensuring dining and play areas remain safe and presentable.
  • Administer basic first aid where required and report any concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Accurately record accidents and incidents and ensure relevant staff are informed promptly.
  • Work closely with colleagues to maintain high standards of care, supervision and safeguarding.
About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with children and is committed to their wellbeing.
  • Is caring, patient, approachable and reliable.
  • Has a positive and proactive approach.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team.
  • Is confident in promoting positive behaviour and supporting children to resolve difficulties.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Is committed to ensuring that every child feels safe, included and valued.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 11:30am-1:00pm. There is some flexibility around the exact working hours and start and finish times for the right candidate, subject to the needs of the school.

We would love to hear from you.

Please note that we reserve the right to interview and appoint a suitable candidate before the closing date, should an appropriate candidate be identified.
