Technical Project Manager - Digital Engineering - Contract

Location: Reading

Clearance: Active SC Clearance Required (DV Clearance Preferred)

Overview

We are seeking four experienced Project Engineers - Digital Engineering to support the delivery of high-profile Aerospace and Defence programmes.

This role requires an individual with strong technical project delivery experience who can act as the key interface between engineering teams and programme delivery functions. You will be responsible for coordinating technical activities, managing risks and dependencies, and ensuring successful project outcomes across complex and secure environments.

Candidates must have a proven background within Aerospace, Defence, MOD, Defence Digital, or similarly regulated engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

As a Technical Project Manager you will:

  • Coordinate technical activities across engineering teams and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress, risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of project plans, schedules, and technical roadmaps.
  • Provide technical leadership and support first-level technical decision-making.
  • Act as an escalation point for engineering issues and delivery challenges.
  • Manage technical interfaces with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Support project reporting, forecasting, and performance monitoring activities.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering processes, standards, and governance requirements.
  • Facilitate technical reviews, design reviews, and milestone assessments.
  • Manage inputs to artefact and deliverable lifecycle activities.

Delivery and Planning

  • Track progress against project objectives, schedules, and delivery milestones.
  • Contribute to effort estimation and resource planning activities.
  • Support workload prioritisation and capacity management.
  • Escalate risks, issues, and schedule impacts appropriately.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet agreed quality standards.

Governance

  • Ensure adherence to engineering governance, standards, and processes.
  • Support configuration management and change control activities.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and mitigation plans effectively to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and delivery managers to ensure alignment across programmes.

Essential Requirements

  • Active SC Clearance (mandatory).
  • DV Clearance highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering projects within MOD, Defence Digital, UK Aerospace, or similarly regulated environments.
  • Experience planning and coordinating complex technical projects or engineering work packages.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience managing technical risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Knowledge of project planning, scheduling, critical path analysis, and milestone management.
  • Experience in estimation, resource planning, and capacity management.
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Eligibility and willingness to access restricted information and secure environments.

Desirable Experience

  • APM, PRINCE2, PMI, Agile, MSP, or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Experience within regulated Aerospace, Defence, Automotive, or other safety-critical industries.
  • Exposure to Digital Engineering, simulation, testing, synthetic environments, or through-life support programmes.
  • Experience delivering projects involving multiple suppliers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of integrated dependency management and technical interface planning.
  • Experience with forecasting, performance measurement, and programme reporting.
