About the role
A fantastic Senior Fund Accounting opportunity has arisen with a boutique investment firm in LA. The Fund Accountant will own the fund accounting function and have great exposure to funds, the business and internal/external stakeholders.
The role will be Hybrid, in LA however there may be an initial ~ramp up: phase in office.
Responsibilities:
Take full ownership of day-to-day fund accounting across a portfolio of private investment funds
Manage general ledger activity, journal entries and monthly and quarterly close processes
Maintain accurate books and records covering investments, income, expenses, assets and liabilities
Monitor and allocate fund expenses against budgets and governing documentation
Reconcile investment activity using portfolio accounting systems and ensure all transactions are accurately captured
Record and reconcile monthly cash activity across fund bank accounts
Prepare quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements
Support investor reporting and respond to limited partner queries and ad hoc analysis requests
Coordinate annual fund audits, acting as a key point of contact for auditors for external fund administrators
Partner with external tax specialists to support timely and accurate fund tax filings, including K-1 preparation
Ensure funds remain compliant with relevant regulations, internal policies, GAAP and industry best practice
Contribute to risk management, operational improvements and broader finance projects across the firm
Handle highly confidential information with the discretion and attention to detail expected within a private investment environment
Qualifications / Skills required:
3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally with exposure to fund accounting. Tax experience is a strong advantage
Previous experience within a fund administrator or large accounting/investment environment
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline required
Professional qualifications such as CPA, CFA or MBA are welcome
Experience with fund accounting, portfolio accounting or financial management systems
Highly detail-oriented and proactive, with a genuine sense of ownership
Professional and polished communicator with strong relationship building skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
