About the role

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and caring SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Burton upon Trent. This is a full-time opportunity starting in September, providing dedicated support for a pupil in Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 3/4) with Autism.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a Year 3/4 pupil with Autism, helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop positive relationships throughout the school day.

You will provide tailored support both in and out of the classroom, ensuring the pupil can engage successfully with lessons and school routines. Additionally, you will work alongside the class teacher and SEND team to implement strategies that meet the child’s individual needs and promote both academic and personal development.

The school is looking for someone who can provide consistency, encouragement, and a calm presence while helping the pupil navigate the challenges of a busy primary school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3/4 pupil with Autism.
  • Support the pupil in accessing classroom learning and daily routines.
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence.
  • Assist with communication and social interaction skills.
  • Implement tailored SEND strategies and interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDCO, and wider school team.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback where appropriate.
  • Help create a structured, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support the pupil’s academic, emotional, and social development.

  • Have experience supporting children with Autism or additional needs.
  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Understand the importance of routine and consistency.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be adaptable and able to respond to the child’s individual needs.
  • Be passionate about supporting children to achieve their full potential.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
