Teaching Assistant – SEND Hub

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school on the outskirts of Burton upon Trent.

This is a rewarding part-time opportunity supporting pupils within the school’s specialist SEND Hub, where you will work closely with children who require additional support to access learning and achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support children with a range of additional needs within the school’s SEND Hub. Several pupils have a diagnosis of Autism, while some children are non-verbal and use a variety of communication methods to interact and engage with others.

Therefore, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs. In addition, you will help pupils access learning activities, develop communication skills, and build confidence in a safe and structured environment.

You will work closely with teachers, SEND professionals, and support staff to ensure every child receives consistent and effective support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEND within the school’s dedicated SEND Hub.
• Assist children with Autism and communication needs, including non-verbal pupils.
• Encourage engagement in learning and structured activities.
• Support pupils’ social, emotional, and communication development.
• Implement strategies and interventions provided by the school’s SEND team.
• Work with individuals and small groups throughout the day.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Contribute to a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to promote positive outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate

• Have experience working with children with SEND, ideally Autism.
• Be confident supporting pupils with communication difficulties.
• Demonstrate patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach.
• Build strong relationships with children and colleagues.
• Be adaptable and able to respond to individual pupil needs.
• Enjoy working as part of a supportive team.
• Have a genuine commitment to helping children overcome barriers to learning.
• Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
