The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Consultant in General Internal Medicine to support a service in the South West within the Unscheduled Care & Medicine Directorate.

This opportunity offers a locum consultant contract covering approximately 3-4 medical wards, providing consultant-led care within a busy General Medicine service. The role is well suited to experienced General Internal Medicine consultants who are confident managing acute and complex medical patients while working collaboratively within an established multidisciplinary team.

You will play a key role in supporting inpatient services, contributing to high-quality patient care, service delivery, and clinical leadership across the department.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver high-quality consultant-led care within a General Internal Medicine setting.
• Provide clinical leadership across approximately 3-4 inpatient wards.
• Support the management of acute medical admissions and ongoing inpatient care.
• Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health professional teams.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical decision-making.
• Maintain clear, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards.
• Identify, manage, and appropriately escalate clinical concerns.
• Contribute to service improvement, teaching, and governance activities where appropriate.

What We're Looking For

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Consultant-level experience in General Internal Medicine.
• Relevant recent UK NHS experience.
• Strong clinical leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work both independently and within an established multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship).
