The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Locum Consultant in General Medicine to support a well-established Acute Medical Service in the South West of England.

This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract within a busy and supportive acute hospital environment. It is ideally suited to experienced Consultants who are confident managing a broad spectrum of acute and complex medical conditions while providing senior clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.

You will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality patient care across acute and general medical services, supporting junior colleagues, leading clinical decision-making, and contributing to the ongoing development of safe and effective medical pathways.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide consultant-level leadership within a General Medicine department
• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions
• Lead daily ward rounds, clinical reviews, and multidisciplinary team meetings
• Take responsibility for the management of complex and high-acuity medical patients
• Support the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), inpatient wards, and ambulatory care services as required
• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans
• Work collaboratively with specialty teams, nursing staff, pharmacists, therapists, and community services
• Contribute to admission avoidance initiatives and support effective discharge planning
• Provide supervision, teaching, and mentorship to junior doctors and medical trainees
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development activities
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
• Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, professionalism, and clinical care

What We're Looking For

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
• CCT in General Internal Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine, or equivalent qualification (CESR)
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility for inclusion
• Significant UK experience working at Consultant level within General Medicine
• Experience managing acute and complex medical presentations within an NHS hospital setting
• Strong clinical knowledge across a broad range of medical conditions
• Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
• Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
