The role

As Assistant Headteacher, you will be an important member of our senior leadership team, contributing to the strategic leadership and continued improvement of the school.

You will have responsibility for teaching Maths, alongside a wider whole-school leadership portfolio.

We recognise that our leaders bring different experiences, expertise and strengths. The additional responsibilities attached to this role will therefore be discussed and agreed based on the successful candidate's experience, skills and areas of expertise, alongside the priorities and needs of the school.

This provides an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop and shape a leadership portfolio that builds on their existing experience and enables them to make a meaningful contribution to school improvement.

Potential areas of responsibility could include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching and learning and raising standards
  • Curriculum development and quality assurance
  • Assessment and student progress
  • Behaviour, attitudes and attendance
  • Raising achievement and closing gaps
  • Safeguarding and student welfare
  • Staff development and professional learning
  • Leading or supporting whole-school improvement priorities
  • Supporting the development of middle leaders
  • Data analysis and school improvement planning
  • Supporting the pastoral development of students
  • Working with parents, governors and external partners

The final leadership portfolio will be discussed with the successful candidate and will reflect their experience, strengths and professional interests.

  • Is an inspirational and visible leader who can motivate and develop others.
  • Has a proven commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
  • Builds positive and professional relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community.
  • Has experience of leading an aspect of school improvement or has demonstrated the potential to do so.
  • Is committed to developing staff and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Can think strategically while remaining focused on the day-to-day experiences of students and staff.
  • Is resilient, solution-focused and able to respond positively to challenge.
  • Shares our belief that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or starting point.
